Baseball, New Rimini continues its march to the top of the standings. Passed the Fano twice

New Rimini wins both games of recovery against Fano Baseball and maintains the lead, undefeated, in group C of series B. 5-0 and 4-1 the results, at the end of two more balanced games than the scores say finals.

“Even against Fano we suffered several times from the opponents’ pitches – commented manager Gilberto Zucconi – Our pitchers ‘hit’ two more great games, the defense was very good and so we stayed in the heat of the matches. Then we unlocked ourselves in the last third of the two races. We can do much better in the box, with less haste and more pitch selection. Basically a better approach. We train hard for this, in the technical staff there are very useful resources to help the technical growth of the boys which is the primary objective. The rest is a consequence of this. The ranking is good, but every match hides pitfalls and Sunday against Rimini 86 excellent performances will be needed to counter an aggressive opponent with a good mount. We can’t afford declines, on the contrary we have to increase our performance”.

The two starting pitchers, Francesco Ridolfi for New Rimini and Filippo Foschi for Fano kept the score nailed to zero for over half the game. A couple of chances for New Rimini arrive in the second inning with hits from Gabrielli and Cortesi, then in the third when with bases full it’s a double play that solves Fano’s problems. On the fifth the match unlocks on Amedeo Focchi’s single. In the sixth Gabrielli hits valid, steals the second and on Tombari’s single he goes to third; at that point aggressiveness on the bases and an error by Fano allow the second run to be scored. In the seventh inning the score is settled with three more runs; two RBI from Signorile’s hit. Excellent performance by Ridolfi who remains on the mound eight rounds: three valid hits granted, a base ball and 7 K. The closing is by Tomas Canuti.

It’s almost a copycat game. Tommaso Aiello for New Rimini and Davide Pierotti for Fano kept the score zero for three rounds. Then Fano went on and New Rimini equalized immediately. To see more points you get to the eighth, with the hosts setting the score. Cortesi starts with a double, then Signorile’s single and Muzzarelli’s RBI allow the three points to be scored, also fueled by the base ball to Bonemei and Gabrielli who ends up hit. Aiello closes seven rounds on the mountain conceding only one hit, a base ball and 7 K. Closing for Daniel Muzzarelli without hits granted.

New Rimini will play the next round in Spadarolo on Sunday 11 June, against the ‘cousins’ of Rimini 86 and it will be the first day back. Race 1 at 11.00, race 2 at 15.00.
