All in the running to meet the challenges of the 2nd Avignon Games

Small success for the first last year and big crowd expected this year for the second edition of the Avignon Games. A purely sporting event organized in the spirit of the 2024 Olympic Games. “We are starting with the same type of organization as last year, except that we wanted to lighten the constraints of the system. Based on our little experience, we have advanced the date to June 10 to avoid excessive temperatures and bring a little more flexibility in the rules of participation”underlines Zinèbe Haddaoui, assistant delegate for sports.

The principle therefore remains the same. At the Plaine des Sports and the Nautical Stadium, some 25 sports clubs will offer to discover and above all practice their art to win challenges in each discipline offered. “This year, the teams will be made up of four people, mixing children and adults. It does not matter the composition. There can be young people, less young people, seniors. The whole thing is that an adult supervises the team for obvious security reasons”, continues the elected official, counting on the active presence of more than 500 participants. Competitors with their roadmap will have to proceed to a minimum of four challenges. It could be, for example, kayaking, boxing, tennis and basketball or even archery, judo, weightlifting or a whole range of team sports, even for the first time climbing. Once the challenges have been validated, the team will have to go to the organizer stand where goodies will be offered as a reward.

A good-natured, sporty, supportive and “sans stress” welcomed by Roland Davau, president of the Departmental Olympic Committee, partner of the operation.
