Alcaraz puts the turbo

Carlos Alcaraz made short work (6-1, 6-4, 6-2) of Denis Shapovalov, Friday evening in the night session for the account of the 3rd round. Lorenzo Musetti, the next opponent of the world number 1, has been warned: the Spanish prodigy has shifted into high gear.

Carlos Alcaraz has put the turbo. After two very serious first matches but clearly below what the Spanish prodigy can offer, who had even given up a set en route last Wednesday against the Japanese Taro Daniel, the world number 1 has apparently decided to activate the steamroller mode. Friday evening, for its first programming in the night session at Roland-Garros, Alcaraz left no chance (6-1, 6-4, 6-2) to Denis Shapovalov. Still tenth in the world not so long ago, the Canadian had everything to disrupt the beautiful mechanics of Juan Carlos Ferrero’s protege and certainly nothing of a stooge. In any case on paper, because in practice, this last match of the day gave rise to a demonstration of a very diligent and still impressive Alcaraz of power and maturity. With the exception of the second set, which saw Shapovalov take off on the only relaxation of the world number 1 in this part, but without succeeding in containing the awakening of “Carlitos”, the native of El Palmar never had problems during this part.

Alcaraz: “I really had a very good level”

And just as he knew how to transform himself into a destroyer from the first points, the immense favorite of this Roland-Garros which is disputed without Rafael Nadal, fourteen times winner in Paris, knew how to engage the top speed again when the player ranked 32nd in the world was threatening. This was almost never the case, however, in this match of the 3rd round which saw the seeded number 1 (Editor’s note: The youngest since Björn Borg), never worried, go through the mill the young Canadian of 23 years old having already played in a semi-final and two quarter-finals in the Grand Slam. Now it’s time for Lorenzo Musetti (who humiliated Cameron Norrie on Friday) for an Alcaraz who didn’t hide afterwards that he felt very strong on the court on Friday. “I really had a very good level today (…) Last year, he beat me, I will have my revenge. »
