A sensible trade with Damian Lillard to Miami: NBA Insider

What’s happening in Portland is “perhaps the most fascinating thing in the league,” according to NBA insider Brian Windhorst, and he’s not wrong.

Their star player, Damian Lillard, has made it very clear that he doesn’t want to play with talent that will take two to three years to develop.

The almost 33-year-old wants a team that can fight for the championship, and he wants it now!

But the Blazers have now received the number three pick in the upcoming NBA draft, a pick that’s historically very valuable.

Talents such as Carmelo Anthony, James Harden, Joel Embiid, Jayson Tatum and Luka Doncic were selected third overall in their respective drafts.

So should the Blazers decide to stick with their pick, Lillard could leave and Miami would be a great landing spot for him, according to ESPN’s Windhorst.

“It strikes me as odd talking about a team like the Miami Heat in the Finals, but the Miami Heat makes a lot of sense if checkers were available,” said The NBA Insider. “They have a number of future first-round picks to trade with. They have a number of interesting young players. It would be a really fascinating opportunity if it came to market.”

This isn’t the first time Windhorst has proposed the Dame to Miami idea, as he said in April, “I would list her for Dame Lillard if Dame ends up being traded.”

He also surmised that much of the Heat bid would revolve around guard Tyler Herro, who has been injured for almost seven weeks and will be targeting his return to the NBA Finals very soon.

If Miami doesn’t manage to win a chip, it’s clear that they should definitely try to team up another powerful and reliable player in Jimmy Butler.

Lillard is certainly that player, having averaged 32.2 points, 7.3 assists and 4.8 rebounds in 58 games this season.
