Yatabaré (ex-Standard, ex-Antwerp) has to go to jail for years after assaulting a police officer | Jupiler Pro League

Former Jupiler Pro League player Sambou Yatabaré has been sentenced to 1 year in prison in France on appeal. The ex-Standard and Antwerp midfielder struck an officer in plain clothes in 2017 during an altercation at an airport car park. At the time of the facts, the Malian played for Werder Bremen.

The 34-year-old Yatabaré currently plays for the French second division club Sochaux. In 2015 he played half a season for Standard, from 2017 to 2020 he worked for Antwerp. That first hired him from Bremen for a year, after which he came over permanently.

The 32-time international was involved in an incident on June 28, 2017 in the car park of Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle airport. The agent was hit on an optic nerve and was incapacitated for work for 21 days.

The midfielder was released by the Paris Court of Appeal in February and placed under judicial supervision pending the hearing of his appeal in mid-April.

Previously, he spent 2 weeks in jail after his first instance conviction by the Bobigny court.
