Feyenoord still has a view of a place in Pot 1 in the draw for the Champions League group stage. Manchester City reached the final at the expense of Real Madrid on Wednesday evening and only need to beat Internazionale in the final battle. If that succeeds, and Manchester City also becomes champion in England, Feyenoord will be one of the group heads in the draw on August 7.

The title holder, the Europa League winner and the six champions from the highest ranked countries in the UEFA coefficient ranking are in Pot 1. If the title holder is also champion in one of the six largest football countries, that place automatically moves to the number seven of the ranking (Netherlands). It now seems almost certain that Manchester City will become champions in England, but the Champions League is not yet in.

Should Manchester City take both prizes, Feyenoord will move on to Pot 1 and clubs such as Manchester City, Barcelona, Napoli, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain will be avoided. Of course, Pot 2 also hosts the necessary superpowers, such as Real Madrid, Manchester United, Internazionale, Borussia Dortmund, Atlético Madrid and Arsenal. The value of a spot in Pot 1 for Feyenoord is mainly that it gets an opponent from both Pot 3 and Pot 4 in the group.

If Manchester City does not win the two prizes, Feyenoord is currently virtually in Pot 3. Based on the achieved coefficient points, it will then end up in the virtual division below between Rangers and SC Braga. Of course, that classification can still change a lot, because the national competitions have not yet been played and there are still preliminary rounds, in which the number two of the Eredivisie participates (virtual PSV).
