Die Steinheim Red Phantoms welcomed five guest teams to the Red Phantoms Ballpark in Steinheim last weekend. At the 34th Steinheim Whitsun Tournament, the hosts had to play their first game against the Villingendorf Cavemen. In this game, the Red Phantoms didn’t find their way into the game at all. The defeat of 0:13 was too high in the end.

In the Phantoms’ second game against the Dachau/Deggendorf syndicate, it looked like the home side would win for a long time. But in the end, the SG Dachau/Deggendorf won the game with 8:4 runs.

In the third game it finally worked with the first win. The offensive worked better and better against Bretten. Steinheim won the third group game with 8:4 runs.

As the tournament progressed, the finalists quickly became visible

The eventual finalists stood out early in the tournament. Zurich confidently won its games against the teams Baden-Wuerttemberg Ravensburg and Bretten. The Villingendorf Cavemen won easily against Steinheim and narrowly against SG Dachau/Deggendorf.

Hosts not staffed with optimal squad

The hosts were not lined up with the squad this weekend. Some work-related cancellations were not easy for player-coach Roland Schobloch to compensate. The youth players Florian Kaufmann and Felix Kanjuh De Los Santos made their Pentecost tournament debut. With a bit of bad luck due to a direct comparison, it was only enough for the match for fifth and sixth place. However, this game was designed confidently and also won with 9:5 runs.

These games were exciting and close in Steinheim

However, the game for third place was very tight and exciting. Bretten Kangaroos won the game by 3-2 runs. In the repeat of last year’s final between the Zurich Lions and the Villingendorf Cavemen, Villingendorf started furiously. They put up five runs in the first inning. Zurich didn’t have much to counter that. Villingendorf increased to 6:0 in the second inning.

But on the defensive, mistakes crept in that helped the Lions. The Cavemen now scored a few points on offense. Due to Zurich’s powerful offensive game and further mistakes on the defensive, Zurich increased the result and won the final of Germany’s oldest baseball tournament with 15:6 runs. The Zurich team managed to take revenge for last year’s defeat in the final. They won the 34th edition of the Steinheim Whitsun Tournament.

Participation confirmed again

All teams played a great tournament in the best baseball weather in front of an impressive crowd of spectators. The two-day tournament was well organized by the Red Phantoms’ officials and helpers. All teams have already confirmed their participation.
