The Pyrenees Trophy brings together more than a hundred athletes from thirteen communities in Jaca – The Aragonese Pyrenees

The Olimpia sports pavilion will host this weekend, June 2 and 3, the XXXIX Pyrenees Ciudad de Jaca Judo Trophy, the absolute Spanish Cup and the José María Lacasta Memorial, in which athletes from 13 autonomous communities and Andorra will participate, with 117 registered so far. On June 3 and 4, the Judo Camp Jaca Pirineos will be held, as well as a stage of technification.

This trophy was born in the old sports exchanges in the cities of Olorón and Jaca and has evolved to become an absolute Spanish Cup event, the highest national competition of the Spanish Judo Federation and, in this case, by delegation , organized by the Aragonese Federation.

The Jaca City Council collaborates in the development of this scoring test for the national ranking in which the best judokas in the country will compete. “Our job from the Department of Sports is to make it easier for all athletes who come to the city to do so in the best possible conditions, so from the very beginning we have been at the disposal of the federation,” said Domingo Poveda, councilor Acting Sports Delegate. This type of activity contributes to deseasonalization, and in this sense “the government team has been clear and has tried to bring sporting events of any level throughout the year,” he added.

José Ángel Hierro, president of the Aragonese Judo Federation, explained that this test is part of the Spanish Cup circuit in Aragon, since in addition to the one in Jaca, the children’s and cadet Spanish Cups will take place in November in Barbastro and Junior Spanish Cup in January in Binéfar. The registration period began more than two months ago and there are 117 registered athletes, 37 coaches and delegates, to which must be added some 65 referees, volunteers and the staff technical. The competition will begin on Saturday at 9:00 a.m.

Technification program

Jaca is the headquarters of the modernization program of the Aragonese Judo Federation and four concentrations are held throughout the year. One of them coincides with the Pyrenees Trophy, in which the High Performance Center of Madrid will participate, and the technical teams of Madrid, Cantabria, Asturias, Catalonia, Navarra and the Basque Country. Therefore, this weekend “13 autonomous communities, national athletes from the Madrid Technification Center and the Andorra team will be present in Jaca,” adds Hierro. As for Aragonese athletes, nine will take part in the competition and two from the High Performance Center will attend, Sergio García and Moussa Macalou.

With all the athletes, a Judo Camp will be held between Saturday afternoon and Sunday, after the competition. “It is an opportunity for the participants to train with athletes of their same level,” stressed Hierro, who also highlighted the “close link” of the federation with the Jaca City Council. In fact, the Judo Camp is called Jaca-Pyrenees.

On the occasion of this appointment, a concert has been programmed, the sound of japan, of Japanese drums. It will be on June 3 at 1:00 p.m., between the semifinals and the finals and the awards ceremony, at the Olimpia sports center itself. It will last half an hour and is open to the public.
