The Port of Algeciras plans to inject 511 million euros to improve infrastructures

The Algeciras Bay Port Authority (spain) has approved its Business Plan for 2024, which foresees an investment of 103 million euros, in addition to thirteen million euros for the Lago Marítimo port-city initiative. The entire plan represents an injection of 511 million euros for the 2023-2027 period, focused mainly on optimizing the port’s land infrastructure.

Of the sum mentioned above, 73 million euros will be devoted to rail accessibility, 25 million to road accessibility, 48 million to sustainability and energy, 26 million to digitization, 11 million to security and protection, 22 million to administrative buildings, 24 million in roads and esplanades, and 90 million in port infrastructures.

Likewise, the Galera and Isla Verde area will be adapted to cover the growth in demand in the traffic of the Strait. The Business Plan estimates a turnover of 104 million euros by 2024, a movement of goods that could reach 110 million tons and half a million trucks in ro-ro traffic.

However, the rebates will maintain discounts worth more than 16 million euros for the clients of the Port Authority in 2023. These rebates include reductions in the rate for the ship and merchandise to promote the traffic of transshipment containers, in addition to discounts on the occupancy rate for container terminals and reduced rates for vessels that use alternative fuels and goods transported by rail.

On the other hand, the Port of Algeciras has received six proposals to carry out works related to the project to improve the perimeter lighting of the Port of Tarifa, whose financing is charged to European recovery funds.
