Me Ciré Clédor Ly, one of Ousmane Sonko’s lawyers, spoke on Wednesday, the day after the Ousmane Sonko-Adji Sarr trial, where the public prosecutor asked for heavy sentences against his client.
Currently in Ziguinchor alongside his client, the lawyer returns to this scandalous trial after the requisitions of the prosecutor, who requested a sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment for rape or 5 years for youth corruption against Ousmane Sonko.

“They have always claimed that there was rape and complicity in rape for Ndeye Khady Ndiaye. If the prosecutor is uncertain, this means that, given the absence which does not exclude acquittal, the judge should acquit Ousmane Sonko with full responsibility”, he declared immediately on the airwaves of the Rfm. According to him, “it is now up to the judges to assume their responsibilities, this file is empty. The prosecutor himself gave the solution to the judge, that is to say that he must acquit”.
What if Mr. Sonko, absent during the trial, cannot appeal the judgment if he is convicted? Me Ciré Clédor Ly ends the discussion by emphasizing that if the judges are independent and impartial, acquittal is the solution. Everyone has followed this trial, there is absolutely nothing at all.
