THE BALL – «João Félix said he wasn’t good» (Benfica)

Guest of the ‘Podcast’ «Ciência e Futebol», from Portugal Football Observatory, from the Portuguese Football Federation, Rodrigo Magalhães, technical director of Benfica’s youth teams, spoke about João Félix’s rise to the first team, stressing that not everything were roses in the growth of the Portuguese international, who in 2019 would leave for Atlético Madrid for 126 million euros.

«Felix did not have expression in the national teams up to the under-18s, he did not have the contracts signed in the timings other colleagues had, nor did it have an associated sports brand. And many times João said that it was not good. He doubted his ability. He said that A or B had a manager, or had a sports brand, or signed a professional contract, went to the national teams. Afterwards, João had a moment of meteoric rise in which everything happened to him: the main team, the national team, the astronomical sales and which even today puts some pressure on him», recalled the director of the reds.

Currently, João Félix represents Chelsea on loan from Atlético Madrid until the end of the season.
