Summary of the first day of the Blues at the 3×3 World Cup

The 3 × 3 World Cup 2023 edition started today, and already four games have been played and half of the group stages have been completed for our two French teams. Back on these already decisive meetings to have a hand on the first place of the groups, four games played under the beautiful sun of Vienna.

THE TWO BLUE MATCHES

Start of hostilities at 5 p.m. for our reigning world champions, with a first match against Brazil, which ended in the round of 16 last year. France dictates the tone of the match after a shot from the parking lot by Marie-Ève Paget from the first possession. Then, the gap grows as the match goes up to 7 units, but Brazil’s aggressive defense and big shots brought them back late in the game. Hortense Limouzin responds with defensive intensity and steals balls, then sends them to Myriam Djekoundade to put an end to the hopes of the Brazilians. End of the meeting, 19-14 for the Blues, the entry into the competition is delicious.

Second match two hours later against Spain. Booooouh, sorry, French reflex. From the start of the meeting, we have a glimpse of the fight between the former world number one Sandra Ygueravide and Laëtitia Guapo, the Blue who had not played that much in the first match of the tournament. The fight is hard but the French play as if they were at home, normal given the DJ who shielded his match playlist with sounds from Aya Nakamura. Hortense Limouzin ensures in attack whether near or far from the circle, and “Wall-river” Djekoundade puts on the Minister of Defense costume illico presto. The Spaniards respond to every shot and the two teams hold together throughout the match… until Laëti spreads the score to two possessions thanks to a shot from the corner at 2 points three minutes from the end. Final buzzer. 14-8 for the French, the objective is fulfilled for the reigning world and European champions.

The standings at the end of the first day:

  1. France: 2 wins / 0 losses
  2. Brazil: 1 win / 1 loss

THE TWO MATCHES OF THE BLUES (H)

Last year, the French had already hit Brazil in the group stage, and the Sudams already had more of the physique of guys who do capoeira than basketball. Alex Vialaret shows that he has only lost his hair in a year with this big 2-point step-back from the first French possession. And neophyte Jules Rambaut demonstrates his spring calves when left alone in the paint. Despite this, the Brazilians quickly take the lead with a maximum of one or two possessions behind. Franck Seguela takes shots from space to stay in contact but the physical fight exhausts the Blues and makes them lose ground. End of the game, 19-16 for the Brazilians, a rout of fatigue for the French who could have avoided a lot of stray bullets with more lucidity.

An hour and a half later, they are back to face the Serbian monsters, reigning world champions. Gala meeting at 10 p.m. which starts rather well for the Blues who manage to keep ahead, small certainly but everything is good to take. The fight is also tough with eleven fouls whistled in all in less than four minutes of play, but Vincent Fauché and his buddies hold their ground against very vicious 3×3 experts. Alex Vialaret gives us a pure masterclass in attack and defense, and France still has a small advantage. But at the last minute, France cracks in defense and opens the doors. The shots no longer fit, and the defending champions come back and then pass in front for the first time in the match. End of the match, 21-16 for Serbia, disappointing end of the day for the Blues where everything will have to be redone on Thursday, but if we can review actions like below to win matches in two days, no one will be against it.
