Strike referees | The referees reopen the door to a strike: “Violence has normalized, especially against minors”

Los collegiate They have become the object of threats and attacks, especially in grassroots football. Last weekend, an individual, father Of A Prebenjamin Player, assaulted a referee after a match dispute between Juventud de Palmones and Real Balompédica Linense in Los Barrios (Cádiz). It is not the first nor will it be the last action of this type that has been recorded in a soccer field and that the presidents of the Territorial Committees of Referees of Spain, through a statement released through the RFEF, have denounced.

Focus on grassroots and amateur football

It is the second action of this type that the group has carried out in less than a month. “It is difficult to carry out our work in a scenario with insults, pressure, threats, and aggression. All this for, presumably, committing arbitration errors in amateur football and, what is more serious, in grassroots football, categories that by all accounts should be considered leisure and training”, analyze the signatories of a manifesto, which, like the one released on April 18 is very harsh.

“The clubs and institutions defend the values that are instilled in football through training, but, nevertheless, we can see humiliation, threats and attacks on people who are being trainedwhose only crime is exercising their passion as referees, in many cases minors, who try to do their job in the best possible way”, point out the referees, defending the most vulnerable teammates.

They criticize the “justification of violence”

In addition, they insist that they have the “right” to be wrong and that they spend “a lot of time preparing to give their best every weekend.” As happened in the previous statement, with the most recent Negreira Case, they are applied to defend their “honesty”.

“Unfortunately, situations of violence are repeated, leven bequeathing to normalize inexcusable aggressive behaviors. We are referring to the way in which very serious misconduct that violates sportsmanship and the values of sport are justified,” they denounce, referring to the escalation of incidents that have occurred in recent months.

“An incident with an irreversible end”

“More than 100 referees attacked and 15 of them minors”, they indicate in that April note, where, as in the one they have just released, they threaten “drastic measures” if the situation is not reversed. “All this affects such a precious asset as our sport, which is why we think that the time has come to avoid, among all of us, an incident with an irreversible end,” they reflect, raising their tone to place the seriousness of the matter at maximum.

“Our only objective is not to have to regret any more incidents than those that have already occurred, which could lead us to adopt drastic and immediate measures that would have a direct impact on our competitions, forcing us not to expose the physical integrity of our members“, they sentence, in a statement where a strike threat is seen again between the lines, which could be transversal, always with the professional focus as the main axis of visibility.
