Salah makes himself heard after missing out on the Champions League: ‘We have failed’

Mohamed Salah is devastated that Liverpool will not play in the Champions League next year. With Manchester United’s 4-1 win against Chelsea on Thursday evening, the gap is too big to bridge and play The Reds next season in the Europa League.

Since the 2017-2018 season, Liverpool always played in the Champions League and achieved many successes there. The team of trainer Jürgen Klopp reached the final three times. In 2019, Liverpool defeated Tottenham Hotspur, in the finals of 2018 and 2022, Liverpool had to recognize their superior in Real Madrid.

Salah always dreamed of playing in the Champions League and winning the tournament, but will have to make do with the Europa League next season. “I am absolutely devastated,” said the Egyptian attacker on Twitter. “There is absolutely no excuse for this. We had everything we needed to reach the Champions League next year, but we failed. We are Liverpool and qualifying for that league is the bare minimum. I’m sorry, but it’s too early for an uplifting or optimistic post. We are failing you and ourselves.”

Manchester United will return to the Champions League after a year’s absence. Erik ten Hag’s team made it to the tournament, despite the 7-0 defeat to Liverpool earlier this season. The former coach of Ajax has always got things back on track after a big disappointment and that is rewarded with a ticket for the billion dollar ball.
