After a titanic fight in five rounds and 3h47 of play, Gaël Monfils qualified for the second round of this Roland-Garros 2023 by winning against Sebastian Baez at the end of the Parisian night (3-6, 6 -3, 7-5, 1-6, 7-5). Fantastic in the last set, the semi-finalist at Porte d’Auteuil in 2008 came back from a deficit of four games to finally win what will remain as one of the great matches of his immense career. In the next round, Monfils will face one of the tournament favourites, Denmark’s Holger Rune.
