Remarkably, the Florida Panthers’ ice is infested with rats | Ice hockey

The Florida Panthers became the first team to reach the finals in the American ice hockey league (NHL). The fans celebrated this by throwing rats – not real ones – onto the grounds en masse.

The Florida Panthers recorded a 4th victory tonight over the Carolina Hurricanes. Matthew Tkachuk once again became the big hero for the home team. At 4 seconds before the final signal, he made it 4-3.

The arena in Florida was roaring with delight. The Panthers advance to the Stanley Cup Final for the second time in NHL history. The first time was in 1996.

To celebrate, Florida Panthers fans threw fake rats onto the ice en masse. You can even see the dolls in the official photo with the trophy for the best team from the east.

A “rat trick”

The Florida rat story begins in 1995 when a rat shows up in the Panthers locker room.

Captain Scott Mellanby grabs his stick and slams the rodent against the wall.

In the match against the Calgary Flames, the Florida player scores two goals. “A rattrick”, laughs teammate and goalie John Vanbiesbrouck.

In the following games, the Panthers fans throw rats on the ice after every goal. The start of a tradition that is now alive and kicking.

An idea for the fans of football club Beerschot?
