As they say, it’s a result that suits everyone. By separating after a draw (1-1), Saturday evening, during the 37th day of Ligue 1, Strasbourg and PSG both got what they wanted. Above all, PSG, which won the 11th title in its history in the French championship.

What value should be given to the coronation of PSG? “One of the worst titles of a French club”

Paris is therefore champion. It is also a record, acquired at the end of a half-hearted match in the image of his second half of the season. At La Meinau, the Parisians were uninspired in the game and had to rely on their individualities, the Mbappé-Messi duo, to make the difference. The Argentinian also opened the scoring in the 69th minute of play.

Strasbourg, for its part, ensures its maintenance in Ligue 1, after a match where the Alsatians were able to set up effective pressing and accelerate on the counter throughout the game and finally go for the equalizer.

A great start to the season, then the difficulties

This eleventh title, the PSG locker room will certainly savor it. Not only because it erases the record previously established by Saint-Etienne. But because it was obtained at the end of a mixed season, marked by a second half of the season far from Parisian standards. His start, on the other hand, was full of promise. In particular a 3-5-2 which seemed able to fully exploit the offensive capacities of the Neymar-Mbappé-Messi trio while allowing a certain balance.

The Argentinian, particularly decisive with his goals and assists, has also shown himself to be a level above his previous season. Mbappé, author of another very good season, was the other strong man. And despite an occasional switch to 4-3-3, and a disappointing second place in the group stage of the Champions League, PSG seemed set to quietly win this record title. Then came the World Cup.

End of season under pressure

The World Cup has obviously hurt PSG players. Physically or mentally, it’s hard to say, but the level of PSG has dropped significantly after the competition. Much less racing and speed in the game, less respected collective pressing, a fluctuating game system. And therefore a team that relies on its individualities. A team also weakened by the serious injuries of two executives – Neymar and Presnel Kimpembe – until the end of the season.

Result, Paris began to score less, and to lose. In the Champions League against Bayern, against Marseille in the Coupe de France. But also in the league. While it had 0 defeats before the World Cup, the capital club has lost six times since. And the victories have often been won in pain, with a collective without chemistry apart from the dazzling performances of Lionel Messi or Kylian Mbappé to obtain a result.

This was again the case against Strasbourg. It is the duo that allowed the Reds and Blues to be crowned. The title is acquired, the record is beaten, the Parisians can savor. The fact remains that the site seems quite important for next season.
