Panamanian delegation is ready to participate in the World Summer Games in Berlin

After several months of preparation and training, the Panamanian delegation is ready to participate in version 16 of the Special Olympics World Summer GamesBerlin 2023, to be held from June 17 to 25.

Panama will be present with a total of 18 athletes, in the sports of athletics, bowling, bocce, rhythmic gymnastics and swimming.

The athletes that make up the Panamanian representation that will be in these World Summer Games son:

Swimming: Alberto De Sedas, José García, Milagros Espinoza and Ana Patricia Sánchez.

Rhythmic gymnastics: Paula Contreras, Maricruz Tuñón, Ámbar Duarte and Gabriela Lezcano.

New: Rosa González and David López.

Athletics: Marisín Arosemena, Cristal Jemmott, Exsaul Hernández and Luis Alejandro Lewis.

Bowling: Alexandra Neira, Andrea Guevara, José Camaño and José Antonio Lucero.

“We are very happy to be able to live this experience again together with our athletes and enjoy their triumphs and joys. On this occasion, 13 of the athletes that make up the delegation will have the honor of presenting Panama for the first time in an international event, which It becomes a whole life experience for them.” commented Johanna Paola Caicedo, head of the delegation.

For the preparation of the athletes, three concentrations are carried out, the first one was held in March, the second in April and the last one is scheduled in June, prior to the trip to Germany; in them, the delegation including the coaches, stayed at the Tower House Hotel
to later move to the sports venues for their training as a simulation of the experience they will live in the World Games.

In addition to the concentrations, the athletes kept pace by intensifying their training several times a week since January
in their respective subprograms.

Panama will say present at the Global Congress of Athletes

Within the framework of the games, there will be different congresses, among them the Global Athlete Congress, where representatives of each region of the programmatic area of ​​leading athletes from the countries that make up the Special Olympics movement worldwide participate. In this event, Panama will be present representing Latin America with the participation of athletes Luis Torres y Ruth Alvarez.

This May 30, the press conference was held, where the delegation that will be at these games was officially presented. Present at the event were: Yolanda Eleta, president of Special Olympics Panama; Claudia Echeverry, president of Special Olympics Latin America (SOLA); Maruja Gorday de Villalobos, Minister of Education; Ángel Hoo, member of the board of directors of Special Olympics Panama; Johanna Caicedo, head of mission of the delegation and Andrea Guevarabowling athlete who will represent Panama in Berlin.

For the first time, Germany will host an event organized by International Special Olympicshaving the city of Berlin, as the place that will welcome a total of 7000 athletes, 20,000 volunteers190 delegations, which will compete in 26 disciplines during 9 days full of sports and emotions.
