NBA superstar Jokic celebrates! Denver Nuggets are in the Western Conference finals

The Denver Nuggets are in the Western Conference Finals where the team meets the winner between the LA Lakers and the Golden State Warriors.

Nikkola Jokic hit another triple-double with 32 points, Jamal Murray contributed 26 points, and the Denver Nuggets advanced to the Western Conference for the first time since 2020 with a 125-100 win in Game 6 on Thursday night over the defeated Phoenix Suns finals one.

Two years after the Nuggets were embarrassed by the Suns in the second round of the postseason, Denver manages to win the series. This time it was the Suns who ended the season on home soil for the second time in a row.

Denver Nuggets not yet in the finals of the NBA

The Nuggets are in the conference finals for the first time since losing to the Lakers in five games during the COVID-19 epidemic in the Florida Bubble. You’ve never reached the NBA Finals.

With a 23:2 run in the second half of the first quarter, the Nuggets built up a decent lead (44:26) and never gave it up. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who is averaging 9.5 points in the playoffs, had 17 points in the first quarter and Jokic had 14.

Caldwell-Pope ended up scoring 21 points. Jokic hit 13 of 18 shots from the field and contributed 12 assists and 10 rebounds.

Denver’s offensive drive continued in the second quarter, and the lead grew to 81-51 by halftime, leading to boos from Suns fans as the players made their way to the locker room. The second half was essentially over before it even started.

Cameron Payne scored 31 points for Phoenix, hitting 7 of 9 3-pointers. Kevin Durant contributed 23.

Underperforming Suns with no regulars Ayton and Paul

The Suns played without injured regulars Deandre Ayton and Chris Paul. Ayton suffered a bruised rib in Game 5 on Tuesday, while Paul has missed the last four games with a left groin strain.

Phoenix were eliminated at home in the Western Conference semifinals for the second consecutive season, despite picking up a 13-time All-Star and one of the league’s top-scorers in Kevin Durant. The 34-year-old had some good games in the playoffs but hit just one of his first 10 shots on Thursday when the Suns fell into a big hole.

Suns guard Devin Booker has been brilliant in most games of the postseason, averaging 36 points per game (60%) going into Game 6. But even the three-time All-Star only had 12 points on Thursday.

The home team won the first five games of the series until the Nuggets broke through in Game 6.
