Mauricio Pochettino is the new manager of Chelsea

Pochettino, 51, had been without a club since June 2022.

Argentine Maurício Pochettino is back in England as Chelsea football coach, after signing a two-year contract, with one more option, the English club announced today.

“Chelsea Football Club is pleased to confirm that Maurício Pochettino will coach the men’s team from the start of the 2023/24 season. The Argentine will start his role on July 1st, with a two-year contract, with one more as an option”, refer the Londoners on their official page.

Pochettino, 51, has been without a club since June 2022, after having spent two seasons at the helm of Paris Saint-Germain, with which he won a French League, a French Cup and a Super Cup, but with the club failing again in ‘Champions’.

Before, the Argentine was almost six seasons ahead of Tottenham, from which he was fired in November 2019, having been out of action for more than a year, before joining PSG in January 2021, roughly in the middle of the season.

“Mauritius’ experience, standards of excellence, leadership qualities and character will serve Chelsea Football Club well as we move forward. He is a winning coach who worked at the highest level”, says Chelsea today.

In England, Pochettino will have his third experience in the ‘blues’, after having also coached Southampton, in 2012/13 and 2013/14.

The next season will be challenging for the London club, after having had the worst ranking in recent years, in 12th, after constant changes of coach and already after the change of ownership, still in May 2022.

The English emblem, European champions recently, in 2020/21, had a season to forget, despite the huge investment of more than 300 million euros in the winter market, which included the signing of Enzo Fernández from Benfica (121 ME ).

The club had started the season with Thomas Tuchel, who left in September to make way for Graham Potter (Brighton), who, in April, gave way to Frank Lampard, until the end of the season.
