Martinique finishes in 4th place in the island games in Corsica

After three days of competition, the Martinican delegation returned from the island games with an honorable harvest of medals. The strong delegation of about fifty athletes proudly defended the colors of Martinique in the midst of 500 other competitors from Sardinia, the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, Guyana, Malta and Corsica.

Gymnastics, fencing, judo, tennis, basketball and football are the disciplines in which Martiniquais were represented.

It is in fencing that the collection of medals was the most important with 4 silver medals and 1 gold obtained by Enzo Mirande in individual men’s foil.

I have been training for two seasons now. It obviously pays off. My goal now is to make a podium in the French Championship.

In Judo, the Martinican delegation finished in 4th place, but crowned with 2 gold medals obtained by Clémence Coppet of the California samurai club, in the cadet category of -63 kg.

Among the boys in the -55 kg cadet category, Louis Beauprés de Morales, of Judo Shin Tai du Saint-Esprit is the first in his category.

In tennis, the boys won 2nd place and the girls 3rd. Bronze also for the girls in basketball and for the boys in football.

Compared to last year, we achieved better results. I am very satisfied with the motivation of the young people and their commitment to this competition.

The Martinican delegation ranks fourth in the 25th edition of the Island Games. A competition in which 7 islands were represented.
