League-independent contract: VfB draws a purchase option with Guirassy

Before the first relegation game against Hamburger SV on Thursday, Stuttgart announce the agreement with their goalscorer: Serhou Guirassy has signed until the end of June 2026, regardless of the league.

He has signed a new non-league contract with VfB: Serhou Guirassy.

The omens were anything but favourable. With his eleven goals in 22 Bundesliga appearances, Serhou Guirassy not only proved irreplaceable at VfB Stuttgart, but also immortalized himself in the notepads of many interested clubs. The probability that the 27-year-old loanee from Rennes would stay with the Swabians diminished with every good performance by the attacker.

Especially given that they still don’t know in which league they will start the new season and the deadline for drawing the agreed purchase option would have ended tonight. At the last minute, the Swabians managed what hardly anyone thought possible: Guirassy stayed until June 2026.

Around nine million euros transfer fee

VfB made use of the contractually agreed purchase option and invested the approximately nine million euros in the purchase of the striker. The contract is also independent of the league. “Serhou has sufficiently demonstrated his qualities over the past few weeks and months,” explains Fabian Wohlgemuth. “It’s not just his goal record that’s convincing. It’s also a good sign that we’ve now been able to come to an agreement with him about continuing our collaboration.” Especially with a view to the upcoming relegation games against Hamburger SV on Thursday (8.45 p.m., LIVE! at kicker) and next Monday.

Stuttgart’s sports director had worked on the attacker, without whom VfB’s attacking efforts often come to nothing, and his management in recent weeks. Which wasn’t easy, because when the loan contract was signed with the French first division club Stade Rennes last summer, no follow-up contract was signed with the player. Without this, the attacker could theoretically have refused to play for VfB if the conditions offered had not appealed to him.

That can’t happen now. After weeks of courtship, the striker, who is the only attacker to earn the title of top scorer in the squad of the Swabians, who are still at risk of relegation, decided to join the traditional club from 1893. “I’m glad that all sides were able to agree,” said the 27-year-old. “My entire concentration is now on the two relegation games. I will do everything to ensure that VfB plays in the Bundesliga again next season.”
