Korean badminton, which had challenged to win the Sudirman Cup for the first time in six years, was blocked by China.

The Korean national team, led by coach Kim Hak-gyun, lost 0-3 to China in the final of the 2023 Sudirman Cup held in Suzhou, China on the 21st.

In the first match, mixed doubles, Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yoo-jeong lost 1-2 to Jeong Si-wei and Huang Ya-chung.

In the ensuing men’s singles, Lee Yun-kyu lost 0-2, and Korea, which was put on the defensive, achieved runner-up in the trusted women’s singles, where Ahn Se-young collapsed to Chen Yu-fei 0-2.

Defeating Japan’s Yamaguchi, the world’s No. Ahn Se-young, who led Korea to the finals with her outstanding performance in this tournament, could not hide her tears.

Ahn Se-young said, “I tried not to cry because it seems like I lose the same way every time, but it’s a bit regrettable. Next time, I’ll prepare more perfectly and lead the team to victory.”

The Korean national team, which showed its potential by defeating badminton powerhouses such as Japan, Taiwan, and Malaysia one after another, raised expectations for the Asian Games that were just four months away.
