Julien Carraggi wint Austrian Open

Friday 27 May: Yes, semi-final!

Julien will face Wang Po-Wei (TAI) tomorrow for a place in the final of the Austrian Open in Graz. Yesterday he beat Tobias Kuenzi in the first round. Today he won for the first time in his career against the Englishman Johnnie Torjussen, who recently won the Portugal Open. In the quarterfinals against the Dane Karan Rajan Rajarajan, Julien won the first set comfortably, but the second set became a real nail biter. He came back from a 10-17 deficit to survive 5 set points. At the second match point for him it was a hit and the semi-finals were in!

Another great result in the race to Paris!

Final for Julien at Austrian Open in Graz

It was a super exciting semi-final against Po-Wei Wang. The boy from Chinese Taipei was able to build up a nice lead in the first set after a few unforced errors from Julien. Julien regained his stability and reached the set point himself, but lost 21-23. In the second, Wang looked tired after some long rallies and trailed throughout the set. It became 21-12. In the third, it was tied all the way until Julien was able to take a 17-14 lead. Wang made 5 points in a row to make it 17-19. At 20-20, Julien turned out to be the most calm and ended the game with an ace and a short net rally.

This afternoon Huang Yu Kai, a compatriot of Wang, is waiting. Last week, Julien lost to Huang in Slovenia in three sets. Very curious about a nice revenge.
