Jonas Valanciunas would like to renew with the Pelicans

Jonas Valanciunas has recently been interviewed by the Lithuanian media Basketnews.com where he has talked about his future in the New Orleans Pelicans and how disappointing the season has been for them after being knocked out of the playoffs.

The center will enter his last guaranteed year valued at 15.4 million dollars, and as of July 2024 he will be an unrestricted free agent. However, he has assured that he is happy in NOLA, and that he would like to renew with them.

“I would like to stay and extend my contract,” acknowledged Jonas Valanciunas. “Obviously during the season you always try to help the team, but when the summer comes you have to take care of your own things, like the renewal,” he explained.

In his second season with the Pelicans, he has obtained figures of 14.1 points, 10.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 25 minutes per day. After a promising performance of the course, Willie Green’s men sank in the final stretch, being 9th in the West with a record of 42-40, and falling in the Play-in qualifiers against the OKC Thunder by a tight 123-118.

“We have had some conversations about future changes. I think that this summer will not be easy at all because they will have to make some key decisions. Our season didn’t go as well as we planned, so there will definitely be changes,” he concluded.

The size of the Pelicans’ roster seems determined, unless they undertake the odd operation. McCollum, Ingram, Zion and Larry Nance Jr. have contracts in force until at least 2025, and the aforementioned McCollum will be the highest paid of the squad with approximately 35 million dollars, and both Ingram and Zion will receive just over 33 million each.
