“I didn’t expect to score so much. It’s unreal what we’ve done”

Norwegian striker distinguished by the Football Writers’ Association

Erling Haaland was named Premier League Player of the Year by the Football Writers’ Association. The Norwegian striker from Manchester City thanked him for the award and in the conversation with the FWA revealed he was even surprised by his scoring streak in his debut year for the citizens.

“I had no doubt that I was going to perform well, playing for a good team. I had no doubts, to be honest. But I didn’t expect so many goals, but I expected to score. Last year City scored 100 goals. So I expected to come and score. I expected it, but not so much”, shot the striker who has scored 36 goals in the Premier League, a record in the competition.

“It’s really a matter of playing game by game. I don’t like to focus on the future or the past. I like to live in the moment and I like to see game by game, exactly what he [Pep Guardiola] said we would and we did. We focused and got exactly what we wanted. In the end, it’s unreal what we’ve done. It was amazing,” he continued.

Of the Champions League final, he said: “It’s good to be favorites because it means we have qualities. We have to attack the game in our own way, play our football. And in the end we’ll see who wins.”
