The Czech hockey players lost to the United States of America 0:3 and will not defend their medal position from last year, when they celebrated the bronze medal at the same place. The Czechs finish eighth at the World Cup, which is the worst ranking in history. Striker Matt Coronato, defender Nick Perbix and gunner Cutter Gauthier took care of the winners’ goals, goalkeeper Casey DeSmith remained bulletproof.
The hockey players of Germany unexpectedly beat Switzerland and, after winning 3:1, advanced to the semi-finals, in which they will face the USA on Saturday from 17:20 in Tampere. The players of coach Harold Kreis thus eliminated the best team of the basic group B and will appear after two years in the fight for advancement to the finals. In 2021, they also eliminated the Swiss in the quarter-finals in the Latvian capital.

Canada’s hockey players handled the repeat of last year’s battle for gold better. Defending champions Finland beat them 4:1 in Tampere and will challenge the team of the other host country, Latvia, in Saturday’s semi-final at 17:20.

Latvia advanced to the semi-finals of the championship for the first time in its history. The players of coach Harijs Vitolinš unexpectedly beat Sweden 3:1 in the quarter-finals on home ice in Riga. Former Zlín striker Rihards Bukarts assisted on all Latvian goals. Miks Indrašis and Janis Jaks scored the goal and the assist.
