The development of the Berlin football clubs Hertha and Union in the Bundesliga has been diametrically opposed for years – and hardly anyone is surprised about it. Schalke would be missed, but Hertha?

So one would have to have a crystal ball into which one could quickly take a look at what will actually become of the many full-bodied announcements and how the whole thing really ends. In the summer of 2019 it would have been quite funny when Hertha BSC suddenly swam in the money when investor Lars Windhorst got involved. The financier immediately brought Jürgen Klinsmann onto the supervisory board, and he immediately spoke of the hottest football project in Europe and had plenty of other marketing slogans ready. The crystal ball would probably fog up with shame.

It was the season when the old lady Hertha was last on an equal footing with an upstart from her own city. Both finished this season with 41 points each – Hertha, the self-proclaimed Champions League candidate, in tenth place, the newly promoted 1. FC Union with its coach Urs Fischer in eleventh place.
