Hasan Salihamidzic invites ex-coach Nagelsmann to the championship celebration

In March he fired him as Bayern coach. After winning the championship, Hasan Salihamidzic would love to see Julian Nagelsmann back at the celebrations.

These are forgiving words at the end of a turbulent season: After FC Bayern had won the German championship with a 2-1 win in Cologne and BVB’s parallel 2-2 draw against Mainz, the outgoing Bayern Munich sports director emphasized Hasan Salihamidzic, ex-coach Julian Nagelsmann’s important role in the title.

“Julian also has a hand on the bowl,” said Salihamidzic at the stadium in Cologne. “We were all sad when he had to go. We appreciate him and he’s a really good coach,” Salihamidzic continued.

“He is cordially invited”

“There are situations in football that have to be like this,” he recalls of Nagelsmann’s dismissal in March. “It was the hardest for me to break up, but I still want to send him a greeting and congratulations because he’s a good guy,” said Salihamidzic. Then he even issued an invitation: “He was there for three quarters of the season and therefore he is also cordially invited to be part of the celebrations.”

The change of coach from Nagelsmann to Thomas Tuchel subsequently met with a lot of criticism. While Bayern were still fighting for the Bundesliga title, the DFB Cup and the Champions League under Nagelsmann, they were eliminated from the cup and the premier class under Tuchel and were only able to win the championship at the last minute due to a blunder from the competition. Salihamidzic himself and the club’s CEO, Oliver Kahn, were also dismissed as those responsible for Bayern’s chaotic season.
