The World Judo Championships are one of the most exciting events on the judo circuit. Judo fans from out of town and local fans flocked to witness the final day of the judo competition – the mixed team competition.
Every mixed team competition has a judo strong Japanese team that has reached the finals, and since 2018, they have met a strong French team every time.
France took an early lead in the final, with Japan’s Soichi Hashimoto taking the lead against France’s Joan-Benjamin Gaba; France’s Margot ‧Margaux Pinot forced Japan’s Saki Niizoe to submit.
France’s Coralie Hayme opened the scoring for France, but Japan’s Tatsuru Saito (white) also scored later. Japan’s Haruka Funakubu pinned France’s Sarah-Leonie Cysique to a 3-3 draw.
In the end, the Japanese team used tactics appropriately and defeated the French team 4:3 in the final, winning the sixth consecutive world championship in this category.
