The top 10 players

  • Stefanos Tsitsipas (GRE/ATP 5) p. Jiri Vesely (CZE/ATP 455) 7:5, 6:3, 4:6, 7:6 (9:7)

Stefanos Tsitsipas’ French Open debut almost went wrong. The number 5 in the world had to fight hard to get into the next round against Jiri Vesely. After the first two sets it looked like an unchallenged victory for the Greek, but in the third round more mistakes crept in and he promptly had to give up a service game. In the fourth section, the favorite caught himself again, but still had to fend off four set balls. The 24-year-old did this successfully and still won the game after 3:13 hours.

Even Hurkacz with difficulty

Like Stefanos Tsitsipas had too Hubert Hurkacz (POL/ATP 14) his starting difficulties. The world number 14 was only able to prevail against David Goffin (BEL/ATP 111) after a five-set fight with 6: 3, 5: 7, 6: 4, 2: 6 and 6: 4. After 3:37, the stubborn Goffin had to admit defeat to the Pole Hurkacz and, like in 2020 and 2021, was eliminated in the first round.
