Fencing: Cdm Saber; Nuccio returns to the podium after 10 years – Sport

(ANSA) – MADRID, 13 MAY – Great performance and two medals for the Azzurri sabers engaged in the individual round of the World Cup stage in Madrid: silver for Riccardo Nuccio, return to the podium for Enrico Berrè who conquers the bronze. A great injection of confidence for the Italian men’s saber group of coach Nicola Zanotti, now in full Olympic qualification for Paris 2024.

Best career result in the World Cup for the 32-year-old Riccardo Nuccio, after the bronze medal in 2013 at the Luxardo in Padua: the Turin policeman who trains in Frascati is therefore back on a Cup podium ten years after the last time. In the semifinal, Nuccio won the blue derby against the Roman Berrè 15-6, a success that opened the doors to the final for him. Only the number 1 in the world ranking, Georgian Sandro Bazadze, stopped his dream, winning 15-6.

As for Berrè, after a long stop due to injury and many sacrifices to recover the shape and size he deserves, he returns to the podium of an individual event, on the third step. He was missing a medal placement from the Tokyo Olympics, where he won team silver.

Stop in the round of 16, again in Madrid, for the other blues Luca Curatoli and Pietro Torre. (HANDLE).
