European Games – Anger at non-nomination – Sport

The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) has named the first athletes who will represent the German team at the European Games in Kraków (from June 21). Among others, canoeist Ricarda Funk, Olympic champion in single-kayaking, and Katharina Schmid, three-time world champion in ski jumping, will be there. (Matte jumping is part of the European Games for the first time.) Overall, the DOSB nominated 210 athletes in the first step. Klaus Pohlen, head coach of the German Canoe Association (DKV), criticized Jasmin Schornberg’s non-nomination. He was “stunned” by the procedure. Pohlen calls on the DOSB to “reconsider this decision in the interests of the athlete”. The reason for Schornberg’s non-consideration is that she has not been in a Nada test pool for six months since the 2022 Team World Cup in kayak one-on-one. According to the association, however, she had a corresponding check on April 22 as part of the national qualification. The third edition of the European Games will feature 29 sports, 22 of which will be Olympic. 18 of these are about, among other things, qualifying for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, and the European Championships will also be held in twelve disciplines in this context.
