His teammates then lined him up and coached him Pep Guardiola (52) praised him highly. What an honor for the Norwegian goal machine!
Haaland’s goal to make it 2-0 was his 35th goal of the season (!) in the Premier League – with just 33 missions. No player has scored that many goals in England since the league has been played over 38 matches. the ex BVBstriker replaced England legends Andy Cole and Alan Shearer, who had both scored 34 goals in one season.
By beating West Ham advanced Manchester City are back at the top of the table, a point clear of Arsenal and one game to go. The mood after the final whistle was correspondingly relaxed. The teammates stood guard for Haaland and thus honored him for his sensational new record.
Haaland himself says about the trellis and his record: “I’ve never experienced that before – it was a nice feeling. It was also painful because everyone was hitting me on the back, but it was great and I was very happy.”
And further: “I don’t think about personal records, otherwise I would go crazy. I will now play video games, sleep and think of Leeds. But of course it was a special night and a very special moment.”
Coach Pep also commented on Haaland’s record after the game: “He’s incredible. He’s only 22 – and has five games left,” said the Spaniard. “We expected him to score but for him to break Cole’s and Shearer’s records…” Guardiola said in disbelief.
