In the evening of this Monday, Independiente Medellín announced the departure of coach David González, with three games to go in the regular phase of Liga Betplay I-2023. The recent defeats against Nacional and Pereira ended up influencing the decision of the directives.
Three days after playing against Once Caldas on a pending date, the red from Antioquia was left without a coach. They are in eleventh position, 2 points behind eighth.
Medellín announced that “it has reached an agreement with Professor David González to end his contract and that of his coaching staff. The institution wants to thank David and his work team for the management carried out during the second semester of 2022, where he led the team men’s professional until the final of the League and got a place to return to Libertadores in 2023”.
Similarly, the statement said that “David will always be a son of the house that will have its doors open and an important reference in our history and fans, for this reason, the institution is happy to have contributed to the professional development of his experience as Technical Director at the club of which he is a fan and which trained him and wishes him the best of success on this path that he has already undertaken”.
Finally, the club reported that in the next few hours it will announce who will be in charge of the professional team for the remainder of the semester.
