DFB accuses Bayern Munich

Dhe German Football Association (DFB) accuses FC Bayern of breaching their word. When announcing the provisional squad for the Women’s World Cup, which starts on July 20, the association announced on Wednesday that the Munich team will not, as agreed, release their national players from June 20 to prepare for the tournament.

The five players nominated by the German champions – Lina Magull, Sydney Lohmann, Lea Schüller, Carolin Simon and Klara Bühl – only arrive at the training camp three days later. “It’s very disappointing for me. We don’t understand the reasons,” said Joti Chatzialexiou, the sporting director of the national teams. The procedure ensures that “part of our preparation is led ad absurdum”.

“Timing and point of time appalling”

The late arrival was justified by the need for a break after the club season, said Chatzialexiou. Herbert Hainer, FC Bayern President, informed him in writing of the decision on Tuesday. Chatzialexiou called the “timing and point in time appalling”.

The DFB go “trustfully with the topic of stress management”. The behavior of the Munich team was “not appreciative towards the DFB, and also disrespectful towards the other clubs,” he added. The Munich would break “agreements made at the beginning of the year”.

After a short vacation, Alexandra Popp, who leads the squad of 28 as captain, and her colleagues were originally supposed to go to the World Cup warm-up together 17 days after the Champions League final, in which VfL Wolfsburg meets FC Barcelona this Saturday. board up in Herzogenaurach; the foundation stone for the successful course of the European Championships was laid there last year, in which the DFB-Elf finished second. “Of course that messes up our preparation, on many levels,” said national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg, “that limits us as a team.”

Irrespective of the anger, Chatzialexiou is hoping for “a flow similar to that at the EM” in the upcoming title fights: “Hopefully we want to win the final this time.” On June 24th and July 7th in Offenbach and Fürth against Vietnam and Zambia in final test matches checked the form. After that, the squad will be reduced to 23 players. Giulia Gwinn is not part of the squad. The Munich defender is still suffering from the consequences of her second cruciate ligament tear.
