Davidovich reaches his first eighths in Madrid at dawn

The corner tennis player Alejandro Davidovich appealed to the epic to reach in the early hours of May 1, and after just over three hours, their first round of 16 on the Madrid sand. The battle waged against the Danish Holger Rune, ninth player in the world, places him in his best record in the Madrid Masters 1000.

The public enjoyed the character of one of the best Spanish rackets of the moment, because at the Mutua Madrid Open they prevailed in this round by 7-6(1), 5-7 and 7-6(5). There were three hours and six minutes of close fight, which rewarded the resistance and daring of the man from Malaga. He already beat the Croatian Borna Coric, executioner of the Pole, in the round of 16 Hubert Hurcakz.

Davidovich put an end to an exceptional streak of his opponent, because he had chained five victories in a row. Four last week gave him the Munich title and the second round, against the Kazakh Alexander Bublikin the Magic Box. It was a tense, challenging duel, muddy at times. Especially at the beginning and that was accentuated when the Dane erased the mark of a ball that Davidovich claimed as bad and that the automatic review gave as good. Rune’s attitude annoyed the public who accentuated their disapproval.

They are two players of character, Davidovich and Rune, a player who seems to enjoy challenges and tense environments such as the one that was installed for a time on the Manolo Santana stadium track. The calls for attention from the judge of this late evening, the Brazilian Carlos Bernardes, were not long in coming.

The duel began very evenly and the first set had to be decided in the tiebreaker, where Davidovich already showed that he was ready for anything. Then the first service breaks followed one another and the Dane, facing pressure from the public, managed to take control of the match. Thus he equalized the duel and took him to the third and final sleeve.

There the corner kept the type. He balanced the score despite losing serve at the beginning and was firm with his physique. He resisted before Rune’s serve, a resolute weapon that he resorted to in every setback. After another tear in the tenth quarter, he took out Davidovich to win the match.

But he was uninspired and Rune made up for the situation and equalized at 5 after trailing 5-3. The set was once again destined for the tiebreaker, where the man from Malaga emerged again, who resisted until the end. She celebrated in a big way, jumping, on the track and thanking the public for all their support for the victory.
