Successful participation of the Canarian expedition in the Spanish Championship for school age judo in the infantile and cadet categoriesheld at the CDM Gallúr (Madrid), with the participation of 804 judokas from all the Autonomous Communities of the national territory and which resulted in a loot of six medals for the selection of the archipelago: Two gold, two silver and one bronze. Some results that also meant the bronze medal in the male cadet category for teams to the Canary Islands.
Aixel Ramirez (-90kg) from the Bushican Sports Club of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, won the gold medal by defeating the Catalan representative in the final. With this result he improves the runner-up achieved last year and shows that his projection is increasing.
The three representatives of the Las Nieves-Akari de Marzagán project reached two finals: Alexander Rojas (+90kg) attended this national event as the second seed and in a grand final against the Madrid representative he won the gold medal, improving the fifth place achieved in the Junior Spanish Championship. On the other hand, Salem Achour (-73kg) starred in a great championship that earned him the silver medal, defeating the number 1 in the national ranking in the semifinal, but losing in the grand final against the representative of the Community of Madrid. Finally, Daniela Rivero (-52kg), following in the footsteps of her teammates, managed to win the bronze medal by beating the Asturian representative in the consolation final, equaling her third place achieved last year.
Regarding the children’s category, Carlos Melianfrom the Las Nieves-Akari project, got the silver medal after a tough competition where in the final he fell to the gold technique in a very close and disputed match.
In the opinion of the Canarian coaches, Jorge Hernandez and Jonatan Hernandezthe level of the championship was high and the six medals harvested demonstrate the good moment in which Canarian judo is currently.
