a weather alert in Imola sets off the alarms ahead of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix

The FIA assured that there is no concern but from the region they showed concern, they even evacuated areas due to the possible overflow of the Santero river.

The Formula 1 plans to play the sixth date of his season this weekend, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prixin which Red Bullcon Max Verstappen y Sergio Perez, will try to extend his enormous dominance in the championship. But bad weather threatens to complicate the development of the test. Although from the FIA They warned that there is no concern in this regard, some versions indicated that the weather alert in force in the area could even force a cancellation. And the information that arrived this Tuesday from Imola reinforces that possibility.

According to several journalists who were already working in the place, the torrential rains that have been recorded uninterruptedly since the beginning of the month caused a great swelling of the river santero, which passes just behind the track and is about to overflow. For this reason, the Italian authorities ordered the evacuation of the circuit and gave the members of the teams and personnel of the Enzo and Dino Ferrari racetrack to evict it, before cutting the adjacent roads as a precaution.

“This is how the situation of the river that passes next to the circuit is now. The personnel have been evacuated as a precaution,” wrote the Spanish journalist Albert Fabrega in Twitteralong with a video in which he showed the situation in Imola.

Shortly after, he shared an image in which he compared the level of the river last Saturday and the level of that watercourse this Tuesday. A level that would continue to rise in the coming hours.

In the Emilia-Romagna region, a state of red alert has been in effect since Monday night, which warns of the possibility of strong winds, rain and thunderstorms with the risk of flooding and damage to infrastructure, including the possibility of landslides. 120 fire units have already been mobilized to the area to deal with possible problems that may arise.

According to meteorological data, the heaviest rains will be recorded between Tuesday and Wednesday, with an average accumulation of 150 millimeters. And it is expected that as of Thursday, the intensity of the precipitations will decrease, although they would continue to be present throughout the weekend.

The difficult situation in the region could affect the sixth date of F1. And not only because it could affect the competition -last year it was already raced with rain and a wet track in the first laps-, but also the framework of the event. Because, as a precaution, the National Crisis Unit He advised closing routes that could be covered by water in the event of flooding and asked citizens to avoid traveling or moving, unless necessary.

A few weeks ago, after a day and a half of uninterrupted rain, the Imola area suffered flooding from rivers overflowing and landslides, which caused the death of two people.

The action of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix should get underway on Friday, at 8:30 a.m. in Argentina, with two practice sessions. On Saturday, starting at 7.30, the last practice session and qualifying will take place. And on Sunday, at 10, the race.
