Soccer and bookmakers have become a society of convenience, which threatens the integrity of the game. The possibility of betting on results, the number of goals or incidents such as the number of cautions or corner kicks generated a dangerous scenario depending on the arrangement or rigging. Faced with that situation, Premier League clubs took a small first step by agreeing to remove bookmaker advertising from the front of shirts from the 2025-2026 season.

The Premier League made this decision in a meeting with the clubs two weeks ago, but It will not implement it until the 2025-2026 season to allow clubs to end their current contracts with bookmakers. At the moment, eight Premier League teams have a bookmaker as their main sponsor, six of them long-term, while Fulham y Newcastle United They finish their commitments this year. The remaining teams are Bournemouth, Brentford, Everton, Leeds United, Southampton y West Ham.

The clubs will be able to continue showing advertising of this type of business in other parts of the clothingsuch as on the sleeves, as well as on the advertising posters in the stadiums or on the training grounds, for example.

The Premier reached this agreement voluntarily before the Government intervened, with a review of the relationship between gambling and sport, to try to minimize the negative impact on society caused by compulsive gambling.
