The Botafogo that ‘looks’ at the future

In the final part of the just ended first transfer window of the 2023 season, we could see the Botafogo effectively exploring the South American market of promising young people, and that is something very significant. The moves made with a view to hiring the trio matias segovia, diego hernandez e matias rojas (not hired) give us the opportunity to envision a future quite different from the one imagined before the SAF.

SAF Botafogo’s business model includes setting up a scouting strong, implementation of improvements in working conditions, training methodology aligned with European bases and the use of the connection between Botafogo and clubs in Eagle Football as a competitive differential, after all, we are today an effective “bridge” for the player to reach the European market.

This whole model greatly strengthens Eagle Football, but it also needs to provide Botafogo with the maximum possible financial and sporting return. the pursuit of John Textor is to make our club a reference for attracting and developing young people in South America, however, these players need to give sporting return to Botafogo, not just financial. It’s no use getting the youngster into a prominent position within the squad and sending him to Europe at the first or second opportunity. I believe it is also necessary to emphasize that the negotiation must be done in an absolutely transparent way and with the club that presents the best conditions, whether it is a member of Eagle Football or not.

It makes me very happy to see the path we are taking in structuring the club, although some of the steps in this process are being carried out at a slower pace than desired by everyone (fans, players and board). I truly believe that if we do everything within the expected and planned standard of excellence, Botafogo will be able to compete directly with clubs like River Plate for the best South American promises and obviously, for promises from our domestic market. The best move is to sign Agüero before he becomes “O Agüero”, and that should be Botafogo’s mantra from now on.

The path is long, but we will reap the fruits of this work in the future.
