The 11 Headlines of Jesús Méndez: the worst DT of his career, who “made him want to play football”

– Jorge Broun: “The “Gordo” phenomenon! For me it is always very good to see him, luckily we recently met at the Giant. A great professional and a better person.”

- Carlos Bianchi: “The best DT who directed me in my entire career. Carlos was like a father to me, he always talked to me and cared about the person, as well as the soccer player. Trainer and educator, that is Carlos Bianchi”.

– Nicolas Tagliafico: “A very disciplined footballer and a very humble kid. “Taglia” with Toledo arrived at Independiente together, the two came from being the starting wingers of Banfield, at first it was difficult for him to adapt to a great like “Red”. When he established himself, he broke it and, to be honest, I was surprised by the very high level that he reached. He is an excellent person, it made me very happy to see him lift the World Cup in Qatar, he deserves it for the enormous sacrifice and effort he made from the first day he decided to be a professional footballer”.

- Gabriel Milito: “I didn’t end well with him because I decided to go to Toluca. He got very angry with me, he never understood or accepted that he needed to leave because my brother had passed away and I needed a change of scenery at 31 years of age. In addition, he had already warned that at first he did not have me in his plans, but since reinforcements did not arrive, he began to take me into account. Beyond this anger, which he ended up being mutual, I consider him a great coach, very professional, with intense and interesting training sessions. Everything that happened to me with Milito was a great learning experience that helped me for my career and also for my life”.

– Miguel A. Russo: “A great Miguel! A DT who is in all the details, he took great care of me at a difficult time in my life. As all of his players know, he knew the ugly situation I was going through, so he talked to me a lot, he was on top of me every day and he repeated to me: “Jesusitoooo… calm down! It makes me very happy that he has directed Central again. He will always do well because he is a great person, he loves football and he loves the club very much ”.

– Gabriel Heinze: “The worst DT I had in my career. I had a very bad time with Heinze and she made me want to play football. The day to day was very difficult and things happened to me that I never experienced in football. With respect because I am very educated, I had a thousand run-ins with him. And although I had a year and a half left on my contract, I made the decision to terminate it because I didn’t want to go to training anymore, it wasn’t nice at all to go and meet him in practice. Many of my teammates from that Vélez squad didn’t like some of Heinze’s attitudes either, but they kept quiet because they were afraid of him. He is very arrogant and in soccer you have to be humble and not forget his origins. What happened to me with Heinze, today I consider an ugly memory. He’s done, it’s over and I’m very calm at home, living in the countryside, 60 kilometers from the city of Mendoza, away from the quilombo and enjoying my family”.

– Manuel Pellegrini: “Great DT… his extraordinary career demonstrates it. Manuel approaches the player, gives him confidence, forms very good groups and both those who play and those who don’t are satisfied. He was very young and being directed by Pellegrini was wonderful and unforgettable. He was the coach who brought me up to train with River’s first, he took me little by little. He didn’t speak in that locker room full of figures, out of respect he asked permission for everything and everyone (laughs). I have the best memories of Manuel and that millionaire band”.

– Juan Antonio Pizzi: “With Juan we never fought. A lot of things were said about our relationship that were not true. What happened the week before the key game against Patronato was because my daughter was sick, not because I was having a mess, I fell asleep, I was half an hour late for training and Juan decided not to start me. Also, it’s not for me to fight, I’m very calm and on top of that when I entered the locker room I saw Juan very big, with a mean face and with his arms crossed (laughs), the only thing that came out of me was to tell him the whole truth. He listened to me, he believed me, but he decided that another teammate should play and he took me out, it was the right thing to do and I benched it. Pizzi put together a terrific group, it’s a pity and an injustice that we haven’t been promoted, we were a great team”.

– Martin Palermo: “Terrible scorer! It was a privilege for me to have played in Boca with Palermo. I loved Martin’s gesture that he had with the kid from Platense, Alexis Sabella, after he posted his problem on the networks. He gave him his support and support at a very ugly moment in his career. This gesture shows you the kind of person Palermo is”.

– Juan Roman Riquelme: “The best of all… I never saw anything like it! I have played with several extraordinary ten, but Román is above all, he was crazy what he played, he was outstanding. He appreciates me very much, he is very aware of my life, when I least expect it, he calls me or writes me a message asking me how I am. One of the most beautiful things that soccer gave me was the noble and loyal friendship of Román”.

– Jorge Almiron: “A DT who is trained to lead any large team. Jorge asked me and for him I played in Independiente. I learned a lot with Almirón, he supported me when my brother died. I had to go to Mendoza, I didn’t train for three weeks, but when I came back he threw me on the field, I was a starter and he gave me all his support. His confidence helped me a lot to get out of that horrible moment and continue playing at a good level. Because of his way of being and his way of training, I knew that at some point he was going to lead Boca. I wish him the best in this present as DT of a very big club like Boca”.
