Sinner eliminated Alcaraz in the Miami semifinals

The final pairings at the Tennis Masters tournaments in Miami have been determined. In the semifinals, Jannik Sinner ended Carlos Alcaraz’s winning run, defeating the world number one in an exciting match 6:7(4),6:4,6:2.

In the final, the South Tyrolean meets the Russian Daniil Medvedev. In the women’s tournament, Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic secured a duel with Elena Rybakina after beating Romanian Sorana Cirstea 7:5,6:4.

Sinner is in his second Miami final on Sunday after being beaten by Hubert Hurkacz two years ago.

Sinner is fighting for the first Masters 1000 title

He never won in five matches against Medvedev, who knocked out his compatriot Karen Khachanov in the semifinals.

If he manages the first success on Sunday, it would be his first Masters 1000 title. “I’ll try to change a few things, like today against Carlos, and then we’ll see. I feel good on this pitch,” says Sinner.

The 21-year-old also ensures that Novak Djokovic will take over Alcaraz’s number one position again next Monday. The Spaniard would have had to successfully defend his title in Miami to stay top.

There is also the chance for the 19-year-old to be the first player since Roger Federer in 2017 to win the “Sunshine Double” with tournament wins in Indian Wells and Miami. Kazakh Rybakina still has this opportunity. The head-to-head with Kvitova is 1-1.
