In sport, it should promote endurance – forbidden! But to date, the case has not yet been dealt with in court, and the Romanian has not been convicted. However, she is not allowed to play. Now the former number 1 is bursting.

In an interview with “Tennis Majors” she says: “I sent exculpatory evidence to the world association ITF in December and they did not recognize it.” Several hearings burst, and the next one also seems in danger.

The two-time Grand Slam winner: “The hearing on February 28 did not take place because the ITF requested more time for additional tests. It was postponed to March 24th. But the ITF is also applying for a postponement. I didn’t agree to that.”

But that didn’t help, “although the rule states that a suspended player is entitled to an expedited hearing,” Halep said. The next attempt should rise at the end of May. But even then the chances are slim.

“The ITF has said that they will probably cancel this appointment as well. If she does, it will be almost eight months since I was provisionally suspended. That’s not fair! Eight months without even being convicted by a court,” explains the 2019 Wimbledon winner.

But how do you think the active substance got into the body? Halep hired medical professionals to find out. The result: A legal but contaminated dietary supplement. The quantity found is said to have been very small. Anyone who knowingly wanted to dope with it would supposedly have to take more of it.

A spokesman for the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) says: “The process is ongoing and will be conducted in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code.”

Halep claims to be clean. “I have always been against doping. I know I’m clean and I haven’t knowingly taken anything that’s illegal,” she says. The 2018 French Open winner feels like she’s in a bad movie: “It was a shock. I didn’t know how to deal with it. I didn’t know what Roxadustat is. I’ve never heard of that.”

Now she hopes that the case will finally be resolved. She fell back to rank 26. Halep: “So far this is the toughest fight I’ve faced in my life and career. I want to play again because I love this sport and I want to tackle the big titles.”
