On the sunny Sunday of March 2, the Froditto/Ventura Tournament was held: a triangular tournament organized by Codogno Baseball at their facility, which saw Tecnograniti Senago Baseball challenge the hosts and Brescia Baseball.
In the first match of the day, Bortolomai’s boys faced Codogno, a newly promoted team in the Serie A championship for the 2023 season, even if its history boasts decades among the top of our baseball.
Balanced and hard-fought match, with the two teams showing good offensive production as well as a lot of attention and effectiveness in the defensive phase: there were several key plays by the position players and, on the other hand, there were few mistakes.
RossoBlù wins thanks to an excellent start by Bryan Sheldon, assisted in a way by Matteo Marelli who brings the match to a close. The launches of the Senaghese mountain, supported by his defense, allowed the offensive phase to be able to develop without too much enthusiasm, allowing the boys of the line-up, once again, to perform in excellent rounds at bat with excellent contacts. In particular, the youngest boys in the team led by Bortolomai emerge: Laise, Bellebono and the seasonal debutant Bellandi produced a good performance at the plate, often dragging their teammates in the fundamental innings and which led to scoring the decisive points to win the match.
A half hour break and we start again immediately. The RossoBlù, this time at home, collide with Brescia baseball, a team that has greatly rejuvenated in recent years and these young players are growing, in fact they seem to establish themselves once again as uncomfortable and stubborn teams for the Regular Season.
This match ends in a draw and the match that takes place is very closed and dotted with excellent defensive plays, which keep it in a point of balance. Here too, the Cuckoos produce in the offensive phase, but can’t bite to take the challenge home.
1 to 1 football which, following the subsequent success of Codogno against Brescia, sanctions the victory of the Tournament for Tecnograniti Senago Baseball.
These are the words of Luca Marzullo at the end of the penultimate day of Spring Training: “the signals are interesting, the team is facing each match with excellent determination and above all a lot of serenity, they face defensive plays and offensive turns with the right approach, and what derives from it is a compact defense and an attack that is really getting into shape. As for the pitching mound, a crescendo gradually took place where all the circles alternated in the rotation and did well, conceding little to nothing and making a few mistakes at critical moments. These first matches, in my view, are giving positive and encouraging signs for the season that is just around the corner”.
The Milanese preparation for the start of the 2023 season will end on the Saturday before Easter, where the Cuckoos will be guests of Piacenza Baseball.
