Featured in Lonely Planet’s “1000 Ultimate Adventures” and ranked among the “World’s Top 25 Adventure Marathons” by US Men’s Journal Magazine, the Full Moon Marathon offers runners “an unforgettable nighttime running experience under breathtaking starry”.

The runners set off after dark, guided only by the light of the moon and the stars. The race is demanding and requires good physical condition, but it remains accessible to all levels, with distances ranging from 5 km to 42 km, specify the organizers (the local agency Treks). In addition to surpassing oneself, this atypical event offers a dream setting with this shimmeringly colored desert. The latter guarantees breathtaking views of spectacular rock formations, sand dunes, canyons and magical and spellbinding natural arches.

The Wadi Rum Full Moon Desert Marathon now welcomes runners from all over the world, ready to discover the beauty of Jordan while taking up an unusual sporting challenge. For Fouad Kalbouneh, co-creator of the race, the experience of the Full Moon Desert Marathon is simply magical, “come and run as the moon rises over the magnificent sandstone landscapes of Wadi Rum, Jordan” he enjoins. For his part the Jordan Tourism Board (Tourist Office) renews its partnership on this event. “We are happy to be able to partner with events that allow us to connect with nature but also to bring people together. We will continue to support this event, which we are happy to see growing a little more each year,” said Hakim Al-Tamini, Eco & Adventure Tourism Unit Head at the Jordan Tourism Board.

The Full Moon Desert Marathon is also an opportunity to discover the local culture, to meet the Bedouins, a nomadic tribe of the region, and to taste their traditional cuisine. Participants can also extend their stay in the region to explore Jordan’s historical sites, such as Petra, the Dead Sea and the city of Wadi Musa.

The Treks agency offers packages ranging from 20 euros for participation in the Full Moon Desert Marathon alone to 200 euros for a race package, accommodation, meals, transfers to/from Amman included.
