Putin’s henchman Ecclestone reveals he deliberately covered up one of the biggest scandals in F1 history

It is about the Azerbaijan “Grand Prix” of 2008, in which “Renault” pilot Fernando Alonso won, starting from the 15th position. On lap 14 of the race, Alonso’s teammate Nelson Piquet Jr. crashed into the wall, prompting the safety car to be called out on the track.

Alonso had entered the pit stops just before the accident, but all the leading pilots went to the “pits” after the safety car had left the track. Thus, Alonso entered the leading position and protected his leadership.

It was later revealed that Piquet’s accident was a calculated decision by the Renault team, resulting in its driver Flavio Briatore receiving a lifetime ban from F-1.

At the time, the F-1 was run by the infamous Bernie Ecclestone, who has made many questionable statements over the years, including claiming he would take a bullet for Russian war criminal Vladimir Putin.

Ecclestone has now admitted that he and then FIA president Max Mosley had information about the gross misconduct but chose to keep the scandal under wraps.

“We decided not to do anything at the time. We wanted to protect the sport from a huge scandal. I spoke to Nelson Piquet in tongues to calm him down,” Ecclestone recalled.
