Los Chicos de Nazaret and La Huerta Vieja, winners of the XXI Wooden Canary Ball Tournament ‘Abuelos Conejeros’

The president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, attended this Saturday the closing of the XXI Wooden Canary Ball Tournament ‘Abuelos Conejeros’ this year held in Mancha Blanca (Tinajo) and congratulated the 680 participants from all the municipalities of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.

Especially to the winners: In the male category: Los Chicos de Nazaret (Teguise) and in the female category: La Huerta Vieja (Yaiza)

Corujo affirmed that tournaments like this one are useful for creating bonds and avoiding unwanted loneliness in the elderly, and encouraged them to continue participating in this activity that promotes values ​​such as relationships, friendship, tolerance, respect or teamwork. . “The Cabildo de Lanzarote will always support this type of tournaments that create links and avoid unwanted loneliness in the elderly”

In addition, the president of the Cabildo highlighted the importance of the Bola Canaria in promoting equality and inclusion, since young and old can participate in the teams, as well as women and men. In this sense, she affirmed that this sport is a fun and easy game to understand and play, which encourages the meeting between generations.

For his part, the Minister of Sports, Alfredo Mendoza stressed the importance “to disseminate and preserve Canarian traditions through this type of tournament, but he stressed that the most important thing is to promote values ​​and positive relationships between people”.

The XXI Wooden Canary Ball Tournament ‘Abuelos Conejeros’ has been a success of participation and organization in the 18 days held. It must be remembered that all participating players are over 60 years of age.
