Strong performance by Jurij Rodionov at the ATP Challenger 100 tournament in Lille: The Lower Austrian is already in the semifinals after a three-set victory over Canadian Gabriel Diallo. Rodionov won the quarter-finals over the world number 212. after a little over two hours of play with 2: 6, 7: 5, 6: 1. In the semi-finals, the 23-year-old will face either the Ukrainian qualifier Vitaliy Sachko or the fourth-ranked Finn Otto Virtanen.
Rodionov, seeded second at the French indoor hard court event, failed in the quarterfinals of both Challenger appearances in Rovereto (Italy) and Pau (France) at the end of February and beginning of March, respectively, but won the tournament last week Challenger in Biel, where he was also able to defend the title from the previous year. Austria’s currently second-best tennis professional is currently in position 119 in the ATP live ranking and would also be able to improve his previous career best by one place with this ranking.
