On the second day of Grand Slam Of Antalya it was a day to remember for the world of Italian judo, thanks to the figure of Manuel Lombardo. The class of 1998, despite a tortuous start, triumphed in the end and took home the most prestigious medal in the category of 73 kg. A triumph that definitively puts aside a rather complicated period for the Piedmontese athlete.
Lombardo’s journey in that of Antalya it was exciting, without any kind of big complications. Five victories by technical score (4 ippon, 1 waza-ari) before triumphing in the Final due to disqualification of the opponent. This is the map that Lombardo had to cross to win: in order, the Piedmontese eliminated the Kuwaiti Naser Almutairithe Austrian Samuel Gassner (the only match finished at the Golden Score, however after only 14″ of extra time), the American Jack Yonezukathe fearsome Spaniard Salvador Rock houses (with double waza-ari) ed in the semifinal the n.2 in the world Hidayat Heydarov.
Then in the final it was time for the challenge against Tsogtbaatar Tsend-Ochir (World Champion and Olympic bronze in office) in the re-edition of the semifinal of the last World Cup, lost that time by Lombardo. This time the Piedmontese born in 1998 managed to get the better of his opponent, disqualified for having thwarted the projection of our standard bearer by resting his head on the tatami.
